So, what's the absolute latest news regarding Megadeth?

Here is the latest information either gotten from Dave Mustaine directly (on the Megadeth forum) or from people getting a call from Dave.

-New Megadeth album-
  • Yes, there is a new Megadeth album coming out! Probably this year. Then who are in Megadeth right now? Well, the musicians appearing on this next album is ex-Megadeth member Chris Poland [website] on the guitar, Vinnie Colaiuta [website] handling the drums and Jimmy Sloas on the bass.

  • There was talk about getting the RIP lineup together again, but sadly this did not happen. Dave asked all the guys and it seems at least Nick was ready to rock, but since the other members didn't want to join then maybe he thought it would be best to pick other guys. It's not sure yet how it was. David Ellefson has said that Dave moved on without him. So best not to think about it to much.

  • When the new Megadeth album (not yet titled, but one track name revealed: Blackmail the Universe) will be released isn't clear yet. So keep waiting.

    New info:
  • Release date (probably US): September 14th, 2004
  • Album title: The System Has Failed
  • Ed Repka was contacted for doing the artwork for the new album, but due to ridiculous demands, he was turned down. It will now be made by a guy named Mike Learn [website]

    -Remasters/remixes of the Megadeth catalogue-
  • Dave is currently remixing/remastering the albums from Peace Sells.. to Risk. He has entered the vault at Capitol Records to give the records a new feel to them. As he has mentioned, some producers and the record company has tried to make Megadeth more mainstream, more profitable in a sense. This can be noticed on some of their later albums. Dave has said that sometimes they had a good sound, but after the mastering and all that when the albums came out, the sound he wanted was gone and more mellow. So now he's really freshen up the drums sound, cleaning the guitar sound, also in the later albums Youthanasia and forward (I assume) slightly altering the pace. Like speeding things up. Also making Risk more heavy. One thing that shows how bad Capitol has treated Megadeth is for example the vocal tracks for the Rust in Peace track Take No Prisoners is gone. Dave hasn't been able to track them down, so as a measure he has re-recorded the vocals for that song. That could be interested to hear. Also, Dave's sideproject MD.45 hsa also been redone, and this time with Dave on vocals (on the original that was handled by Lee Ving).

  • About bonustracks. There will be plenty of bonustracks on the records as it seems. Like Rust In Peace demos with Chris Poland, A Tout Le Monde with different French lyrics and other. Also, it's not neccessary to have all bonustracks "where they belong". Like rare stuff from Countdown to Extinction doesn't have to be on that album. It can be distributed anywhere.

  • The reissues will be released worldwide he said, so it's not like a limited release. The release date isn't set, so keep checking for more info.

  • Also what we have to look forward to also is a DVD with all Megadeth videos (during their Capitol days). It's about time!

    New info:
  • US release date for the remixes is July 27th, International dates to come..
  • International dates: Japan on August 4. On August 8, the following countries will receive the reworked releases: Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, South Korea, Australia, Argentina and Brazil. (no further countries confirmed yet)

    -Dave Mustaine's solo album-
  • At last, Dave Mustaine will be releasing a solo album as well. This has been the least spoken of, but as I know they songs are pretty much done. Though musicians and release date isn't set. Probably a while after the Megadeth album and the remasters.

    New info:
  • Vinnie Colaiuta is set to play drums on Dave's upcoming solo album.

    -Tour-
  • He has mentioned a tour. It depends on some things, but Jimmy (Sloas) and Vinnie (Colaiuta) has said that they are up for it. Chris (Poland) has mentioned once that if the tour doesn't interfere with what he's doing with his new band OHM: then he might be willing to help out.

Quote from Dave Mustaine: "I may end up just visiting Europe and the UK until the demand is back for me over there. But I do know that I am going back to Japan and doing the US and South America in the next two years."
Quote 2: "They have submitted 17 dates for the US and Canada, and I told them I would be willing to do 20 concerts a year in North America, which will be the only concerts this year as of now." .. "We are also considering concert dates outside of the US and Canada and that would include approximately 25 dates for the UK and Europe, 20 dates for the Pacific Rim, and 10 dates for South America."

    New info:
  • It has been confirmed that Megadeth will tour this year. Around 20 dates has been set for US and Canada. International dates has been spoken of. So stay tuned..
  • Dave has mentioned that both Vinne and Jimmy would be able and willing to tour with Dave, and Chris would maybe join if it's not colliding with his own work (with OHM:).
  • Jimmy Sloas (bass) seem to be ready to follow Dave on tour.
  • Nick Menza is most likely to be the drummer on the upcoming Megadeth tour.
  • The guitarist who will follow on the tour is Glen Drover (ex King Diamond, now Eidolon)

    -Others-
  • Also, Megadeth's current record company Sanctuary, will maybe do something to help celebrate Megadeth's 20th anniversary. Possibly seeing a live acoustic concert.
  • Both a Megadeth fanclub and a Dave Mustaine fanclub might be a reality in the near future.
  • In the making is a 100% original designed gutiar by Dave Mustaine. It will be called ESP Axxion.

This is as much as I can think of right now that is going on with Megadeth. This is official stuff, straight from Dave Mustaine's mouth in some way. I'll be keeping you posted with more info as I get it.
